Founder of jeppiaar university , trust and more educational institutions passed away in chennai
Well known politician turned educationist and Founder of Jeppiaar Educational Trust Jeppiaar passed away in Chennai on Saturday. The 85-year-old was brought dead to the Global hospital in Chennai. The Chancellor of Sathyabama University, Jesadimai Pangiraj also known as JPR started his career as a police man. A former member of the Tamil Nadu legislative assembly and AIADMK member Jeppiaar was known to be a close confidante of former Chief Minister MG Ramachandran. He had also acted as the chief whip of the Tamil Nadu assembly. He was AIADMK secretary of the Chennai District from 1972 to 1987 and was special envoy to the Chief Minister. In an interview to TNIE, his daughter Maria had once said, “Appa was like MGR’s right hand. They shared a close relationship. In fact, when we were born, it was MGR who named us Anbu Nila and Thanga Nila. Chennai : The best way to probably enjoy the iftar food is to indulge in a traditional, home-cooked meal. Here we share a few handpicked recipes. Nombu kanji and pudhina chutney is the staple iftar feast in our house during all the 30 days of Ramzan. There are different versions of kanji. Sometimes we make a vegetarian version, other times just add in minced chicken or meat to pack in some extra taste and nutrition. This is my grandmother’s and she’s been making it for 50 years. Narayanasamy is tenth CM of Puducherry
Puducherry : Lt Governor Kiran Bedi administered the oath of office and secrecy to Narayanasamy and five other ministers – A Namassivayam, Malladi Krishna Rao, MOHF Shahjahan, M Kandasamy and R Kamalakannan - at ‘Gandhi Thidal’ near the seashore here. While Rao, hailing from Yanam, an enclave of Puducherry in Andhra Pradesh, took the oath in Telugu, others took it in Tamil. All of them are former ministers of the Union Territory. Bridge breaks due to overcrowding
Police said more than 300 participants got on to the wooden bridge waiting for the run to start after parking their vehicles in the parking area. Some women suffered minor injuries, and many participants complained that they had lost their cell phones. None of the injuries were serious enough to demand hospitalisation or out-patient care, police sources said. They said the failure of organisers of the Pinkathon led to the mishap. Fortunately, the water level in the area was too shallow. The tourism department had clearly instructed the organisers not to use the bridge which was temporarily erected for a fair three months ago. “The department had clearly asked the organisers not to use the bridge as it was fragile. The department could not demolish it as there was a case going on between the organisers of the fair and tourism department,” a police official attached to Triplicane police station said.
